Title: Wiki’s, Podcasting and Blogs – Oh My!
Florence McGee (mcgee_f@mac.com)
and Pauline Luther (Pauline_Luther@places.pcsb.org)
Description: Come with us down the yellow brick road of how these new digital tools can be used effectively in our schools and classrooms to give students voice. We will share engaging examples from around the state and world. We will discuss safety and security issues that will even make the “tin man” {MIS} have a heart. Even the “scarecrows” {teachers & administration} will grow in brain power as we share easy and free ways to make learning fun. Follow us for a brief look at the OZ of the digital age…. It is just not Kansas anymore Dorothy!

Wikis and Blogs ---Some great places to start for information..
differences between wikis and blogs:
- when someone writes a blog post,
they own that post;
- in a blog, all posts are organized by reverse-chronological order;
- blog posts are permanent, even though they can be edited, bloggers don't normally edit them,
- blog posts are great for having a dialogue going in the comments,
'Wikis:'
- on a wiki, anyone can edit what was wrote
- in a wiki can use any organizational scheme
- wikis are constantly a work in progress but wikis really level the playing field
why wiki:
- easy to use
- web-based
- anyone can make changes
- findability
- many free and open-source wikis
- flexible and extensible
- great colloborator
The one we use is really and truely as easy as making a pb& j sandwich!
